September – Springbank Distillery Month – Week 2

With a day delay, here we are with a special limited edition of Springbank Disitillery.

The Springbank distillery in Campbeltown has released Local Barley expressions before, but this one has been the first after a long time, being bottled in 2016.

This 16 Year Old Local Barley is the first in a series of five expressions to be released over five years. They have used barley grown at Low Machrimore Farm in Southend, which is just a few miles outside of Campbeltown. 9,000 bottles were produced.

As the real whisky enthousiasts will confim it is sold out way to quickly and a lot of the time by collectors. And I most say it is a shame that this whisky doesn’t get drunk enough.

So a great price, for a great whisky.

September – Springbank Distillery Month

Well, maybe we’ll start something new? Maybe, we’ll see how this first month goes?

I decided to dedicate this month to Springbank Distillery, situated in Campbeltown.

Honestly, I have to admit that in the beginning I wasn’t a big fan of Springbank whisky. Don’t really know why. My memories seem to tell me that I always found it still a bit to rough on the edges. Those were my early years, my first drams. Now it has become one of my favourites distilleries. If you ever get the chance it is really the distillery to visit.

Step back in time; it really is an open working museum; it even got real friendly people to tell you all about it. Great place but you have to put some effort in to get there.

But enough chitchat, lets get to the more important stuff.

SPRINGBANK DISTILLERY MONTH!

We’ll start this first week with a peated whisky that is no longer in production. Amazing to still have found this beauty and at this price.

It’s a NAS, but that doesn’t say anything about the excellent quality of this dram.

Really a shame that they don’t make this anymore. Just a few bottles available.

Back from …

Well, as you might have noticed we have been away for a while. After a long, big stressfull struggle to find a new, interesting job, travelling for a month to Canada after starting that job for 2 weeks and saying goodbye to one of the most important person in my life, I might have found the motivation again to post some stuff about whisky.

I can tell you that there are quite a few things in the making, but I’ll come back to them when time is ripe. So be sure you have subscribed to the newsletter. If you only bought something in the past that will  not keep you posted on the new things in the making.

For now just a “Bottle in the picture”!

Holidays are almost over, so cash is low, but the urge for good whisky still there. So here is one of my favorite independent bottler’s with a really great value for money dram. This bottle really shows you the advantage of blended Scotch, but the expected quality of a Single Malt. 70% Sherry matured and 30% bourbon cask, all that richeness for less than 50 euros.

You can enjoy this one on your own, having some quality time, or just empty it a one night amongst friends. It will in either case not disappoint.
